Project Manager - Residential Cabinetry & Millwork

Location: Oakland, CA

Manage residential projects with clear client communication, reliable schedules, and complete production handoffs.

Open Standard is seeking a Project Manager with demonstrated experience coordinating residential construction, design delivery, or fabrication projects. You will bring disciplined follow-through, drawing literacy, and confident client communication. Direct cabinetry and architectural millwork experience is preferred; our products and systems can be learned by someone with the required construction and project coordination foundation.

Open Standard is an Oakland cabinet and architectural millwork studio serving design-minded homeowners and their project teams. We create thoughtful solutions for kitchens, bathrooms, and closets, combining precise engineering, considered design, and skilled fabrication.

About the Role

As Project Manager, you will coordinate multiple residential projects from kickoff through final delivery, maintaining an accurate record of scope, client decisions, drawing revisions, dependencies, and milestone dates. Keep clients informed and give design, engineering, procurement, and production the complete, current information needed to execute.

This is not an entry-level coordination role. Candidates must demonstrate ownership of project schedules, client follow-through, and coordination among designers, consultants, contractors, or production teams. We assess demonstrated capability rather than requiring an arbitrary number of years.

Success is measured through current milestone schedules, timely client decisions, closure of assigned actions, complete handoffs, documented scope changes, and early escalation of delivery risks. Align commitments with operations and engineering before communicating dates or releasing information for production.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain a milestone plan for each active project, covering field information, client selections and approvals, drafting, engineering release, purchasing dependencies, production, and delivery; track owners, due dates, and slippage.
  • Serve as a consistent client contact; document decisions and approvals, communicate next steps and open questions, and provide timely, accurate updates when scope or dates change.
  • Keep schedules, assignments, decision logs, and follow-up current in Asana and internal tools; review at-risk milestones with the responsible team and document recovery actions.
  • Use Figma and shared project records to communicate current design information, identify revisions, and keep contributors working from the same approved scope.
  • Coordinate overseas drafting consultants with complete briefs, due dates, and consolidated feedback. Check drawing packages for completeness, dimensions, selections, and revision consistency; route technical questions and engineering validation to the responsible specialists.
  • Before the design-to-engineering and production handoffs, confirm approved scope, current drawings, field dimensions or open verification items, materials, finishes, hardware, client approvals, and documented changes. Track missing items to closure; engineering retains technical release authority.
  • Identify dependencies, unanswered questions, long-lead materials, and site constraints before they delay work; coordinate action owners and required dates with engineering, procurement, and operations.
  • Document requested scope changes and their cost, schedule, and manufacturing implications; coordinate pricing and required approvals before incorporating changes or making new client commitments.
  • Maintain a current project record and review open actions and delivery readiness regularly. Coordinate delivery and site readiness with the responsible teams and track remaining issues through closeout.

Required Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience coordinating residential construction, design delivery, or fabrication projects, including schedules, client decisions, and handoffs among multiple contributors.
  • Working knowledge of residential construction sequencing, field verification, trade dependencies, and how design or site changes affect cost, manufacturing, and delivery.
  • Clear written and verbal client communication, including documenting decisions, resolving questions professionally, and communicating schedule risks without making unsupported commitments.
  • Ability to maintain milestone schedules and action logs across multiple projects, assign follow-up owners, and escalate missed commitments promptly.
  • Ability to read architectural or shop drawings, check dimensions and revision consistency, and identify missing information or constructability questions for the responsible technical team.
  • Accurate project documentation and scope-change control, together with comfort learning digital project management and collaboration tools.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Direct experience managing custom cabinetry or architectural millwork projects, especially design-to-manufacturing coordination.
  • Experience coordinating clients, designers, engineers, contractors, and fabrication teams through approvals, change orders, and delivery.
  • Familiarity with Asana or Figma.
  • Experience coordinating remote or international drafting teams. Open Standard can train its particular products, workflow, drawing conventions, and software; independent drafting or engineering is not a prerequisite for this coordination role.

Pay and Benefits

  • Full-time, W-2; confirm final employment terms before posting.
  • Pay range: $80,000-$100,000 per year, depending on relevant experience and qualifications.
  • Benefits: Two weeks of paid time off (PTO), full benefits, and a 401(k) plan.
  • Training and guidance on company products, systems, and processes are available from the experienced team.
